Hi my name is Marcie Paige. I am a mom to 2 beautiful girls and I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for 12 years.

I’m a very do-it-myself kind of person. I dabble in a lot of different things such as sign language, clean eating, scrapbooking, sewing, piano, guitar, violin and web design. Almost everything I’ve learned is either self taught (Google is my best friend!) or learned from a family member.

I’ve always known I wanted to be be an entrepreneur. As a teenager I was constantly scheming up ideas for a project. I made and sold jewelry, mittens, baby clothing and quilts.

I prefer to live in the country, I don’t like stepping out my front door and being able to see my neighbour – I also love to pig out on fruits and berries rather than junk food and I feel like I’ve just eaten a treat.

Marcie Paige, founder of Baby Sign Studio, is a creative and engaging baby sign language strategist and positive parenting advocate. Marcie creates baby sign strategy plans for new moms that are, fun, engaging and powerfully effective.

Our Interview with Marcie

MGV: Have you ever worked outside the home?

Marcie :YES

MGV: What’s your work Background and Education

Marcie : I’ve worked as an Administrative Assistant / Bookkeeper and have a certificate in American Sign Language levels 1-8.

MGV: What do you currently do from home?

Marcie : I run two online businesses from home. At BabySignStudio.com I teach baby sign language to new moms through an online classroom. And I own and operate an online baby store SavvyMomFinds.com.

MGV: How long?

Marcie : I’ve been running my online baby store for 6 years now and BabySignStudio.com is a new venture that came into existence earlier this year.

MGV: How did you get started?

Marcie : When I was pregnant with my second daughter I started looking into work-at-home jobs that I could do around my kids schedule. I needed the flexibility to work odd hours during the day or evening. I needed to be able to provide full-time care for my children and bring in a part-time income at the same time.

I took an online course to learn about running an e-commerce business from home and thats how my baby store was born. A few years later, while enrolled in a marketing course, I realized the potential of selling digital products. Because I loved using baby sign language with my own girls so much I decided to put together an online course to teach other moms the strategies and techniques I used that made sign language so successful in my home.

MGV: How much did it cost you to get started?

Marcie :It cost $500 for the course and $30 per month for my website. I sold several drop shipped items in the beginning to keep costs down. After the first year I learned there were more affordable sites to use for e-commerce and got my cost down to $11.00 per month. When I started up BabySignStudio.com my costs were a lot lower (under $100).

MGV: Are you currently earning any income from your business?

Marcie : YES

MGV: What is your current average income from your business?

Marcie : Under 10,000

MGV: How long did it take for you to see income coming in?

Marcie : I had my first sale from my baby store in 1 month and after 6 months I was getting regular sales. It took me 3 years to get my gross income over $30,000/year.

BabySignStudio.com is still a baby. I had my first sale 2 weeks ago and I’m excited to see where it takes me 🙂

MGV: Have you ever done anything else from home?

Marcie : YES

MGV: What else have you done?

Marcie : I sold Tupperware for about a year.

MGV: What is your favorite thing about working from home?

Marcie :  I like that I can work when its convenient for me and my family. I love the work I’m doing and I get to choose what direction I take. I’m available when my kids need me and I LOVE being my own boss.

MGV: What is your least favorite thing about working from home?

Marcie :I’m working along most of the time which is good because I can be more productive, but sometimes I really wish I had a partner so we could discuss ideas and split the work load.

MGV: Would you recommend working from home to other stay at home moms?

Marcie :YES

MGV: Why?

Marcie : Working from home can be really rewarding if you love what you are doing.

MGV: Anything else you would like to share with our community?

Marcie : You must be passionate about the job you choose. It’s important to remember that you will be spending most of your spare time (which is not much when you’re a mom) working on your business, you need to LOVE it 🙂
